Tree Planting & Food Security

Maldives is made up of over 1,192 islands, of which around 200 are inhabited. Yet, these islands are not fully utilized for their natural potential. As a result, we remain heavily dependent on imported food and resources, a dependency that places us at great risk during global crises.

To address this, we have launched an ongoing Planting Trees & Food Security Program. Through this initiative, we will plant fruit-bearing trees on every inhabited island, helping communities secure their own sustainable food sources.

This program ensures that, in times of crisis, Maldivians can rely on their own natural resources instead of external supply chains. Even outside emergencies, these trees will provide long-term nutritional, environmental, and social benefits, making our communities healthier and more resilient.

We believe that planting fruit trees today is an investment for tomorrow, a step toward building a greener, self-reliant Maldives for current and future generations.

Island Clean-up Initiatives

Waste pollution is one of the biggest challenges facing the Maldives, with plastics, oil residues, and other debris threatening both our environment and communities. To tackle this, MCGF has launched ongoing Island Cleanup Initiatives across inhabited islands.

These initiatives bring people together to remove waste from beaches, harbors, and public spaces, restoring the beauty of our islands and protecting marine life. By organizing regular cleanup drives in partnership with local councils and volunteers, we aim to keep our islands clean, healthy, and safe for everyone.

A cleaner Maldives is not only vital for our environment but also essential for the wellbeing of our people and the sustainability of our tourism-driven economy.

Awareness Program

Change can begin with one person, but it can only be sustained when communities come together. Through our Awareness Program, MCGF works to spread knowledge and inspire collective action across the Maldives.

We focus on educating communities about the importance of cleanliness, the dangers in reusing of used cooking oil, responsible management of waste and many similar pressing matters. By raising awareness, we aim to bring people together, encourage cooperation, and create a shared sense of responsibility for our environment.

This program is about building unity and empowerment, helping our communities understand that small actions, when multiplied, create lasting change. Together, we can improve our lives today while ensuring a healthier, cleaner Maldives for generations to come.
