Planting 54,000 Breadfruit tree

Our first project is to plant approximately 54,000 breadfruit trees across all inhabited islands of the Maldives. This ambitious initiative aims to secure food resilience and create a greener environment for every community and is set to start on November 2025.

We have chosen the breadfruit tree because of its unique benefits. Breadfruit is a highly valuable local crop, nutritious, filling, and versatile, easily prepared in a variety of ways. Each tree also provides shade, clean air, and stronger ecosystems for island life.

The selected variety is expected to start bearing fruit within 3–4 years, producing 200–400 breadfruits annually. By planting one tree for every household and an additional ten trees for each island council, we ensure that every family has a direct, sustainable food source in times of crisis. Even outside emergencies, breadfruit will continue to provide long-term nutritional, social, and environmental benefits to our society.

This project strengthens community resilience and food independence, while contributing to a cleaner, greener Maldives for generations to come.
